Jake, SHOCardsLA's new sales associate
Team News

Welcome to the team, Jake! 🎉

SHOCardsLA has its first sales associate — a 13-year-old catcher, shortstop, and die-hard Ohtani collector. If you've visited our table at a recent card show, you've probably already met him. We couldn't be prouder.

The SHOCardsLA philosophy

We don't buy cards to sell them.

Every card at SHOCardsLA was bought to keep. That one idea drives everything you see here — what we buy, what we're willing to pay, how we price, and why the collection looks the way it does.

🏛️ Bought to hold

We're collectors first, not flippers. When we buy a card, the plan is to keep it for years. Nothing here has to sell — so nothing sells cheap.

💎 We pay up for rare

When a truly rare card surfaces, we move — often well above the last sale. By the time another copy appears, it will cost more. Waiting for a “fair” price on a card you may never see again isn't discipline; it's how you miss it.

🖼️ Built to display

PSA 10s in matching slabs. Vertical cards that sit beautifully on a shelf. A collection you plan to hold for years should be one you love looking at every day.

⚖️ Deliberately diversified

Rookies, autographs, 1/1s, rare parallels, game-used memorabilia — spread across sets, products, and eras. Never concentrated in one bet.

What's a card really worth?

A price app will tell you a card is “worth” $10,000 because one sold for that months ago. We ask a different question: what would it cost to replace this card today — the same card, actually for sale, right now? Often the honest answer is: there isn't one.

That's why our asking prices can sit well above the “comps,” why we rarely let a rare card go anywhere near comps unless we own two — and why we're happy to wait until the price is right. A sold listing is history. Replacement cost is reality.
